03 I Knead My Flour with Spring

Water and It Becomes Dough,

2025-26

Órgiva is a mountainous town in the south of the province of Granada, situated on the southern slopes of the Alpujarras, and was likely founded in the 8th century by North African Berbers. In the early modern period, the town’s inhabitants lived largely self-sufficiently, cultivating vegetables and fruit and raising livestock. In the 20th century, with the expansion of infrastructure, merchants, craftsmen, and other service providers also settled in the town.

Today, Órgiva has around 6,000 residents. People from sixteen different nations live together here. Vegetable and fruit cultivation, as well as livestock farming, still play an important role in the daily lives of many. Perhaps it is precisely this closeness to nature, the cultural diversity, and mutual acceptance that make this region so attractive to people from around the world.

My photographic series depicts Órgiva and its community from the perspective of women who have settled here in recent years and started a family. The starting point of my work is a Hungarian-English family that has been living in Órgiva for ten years. The main protagonists of the series are primarily the Hungarian-born mother and her daughter.

I believe that this small town can serve as an important example for the world of self-identity, mutual support, and peaceful coexistence: of how we can listen to our intuition, turn toward self-knowledge, and become better people, living in harmony with nature and away from the noise of consumer society. Therefore, my goal in this work is not only to document the residents of Órgiva but to get to know them more deeply and develop images together with them. The resulting photographs aim to convey the joy of life, wisdom, and deep human connection that shape the daily lives of people in Órgiva.

The series consists of 70 photographs, of which 15–20 will be printed and framed in June. This is still an ongoing project, I will be returning to Órgiva.
